School of Nursing and Midwifery

School of Nursing &Midwifery of Umma University was established in the year 2015 and enrolled the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) cohort in May 2015 who successfully graduated in June 2019. This group attained 100% pass in the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) Registration Examination. The school supports students and alumni to achieve timely internship placement in various health institutions in the country. The school has support system to provide counselling and advisory services to students. The school also provides mentorship to students, alumni, staff and staff from partners’ institution. Our programs have been approved by Commission University Education (CUE) and NCK as we focus to provide a holistic learning approach, conducive environment and an interdisciplinary approach in our training. The school facilitates quality lecturer- student ratio of 1:5. The school also have ultramodern nursing skills laboratories other laboratories and spacious classroom. Our research efforts are geared to empower our students with skills that will equip them to carryout studies and appraise evidence based practice in health care institutions, health service delivery and emerging diseases.

KCSE mean grade of C+ and above  with C+  English or Kiswahili , C+ in Mathematics  or Physics , C+ in Biology , C+ in Chemistry  or equivalent qualifications
12 Trimesters/  4years 
2.    Bachelor of Science Nursing (Upgrading)
1.      Higher Diploma in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing
2.      Registered with the Nursing Council   of Kenya  
At least 2yearsof   working Experience  after the  attainment of the Diploma

The philosophy of the School of Nursing & Midwifery Umma University is based on Islamic values with emphasis on total development of individual moral rectitude and hard work in advancing the science and practice of nursing/ midwifery that improves the health of individuals, families, communities, society, the nation and the world.
A resilient educational foundation based on moral principles will enable nurses and midwives to conduct evidence-based practice, translate knowledge in health sciences and health care to improve healthcare delivery to all human beings and achieve excellence in the engagement of scholarly activities.

Our philosophy is based on Islamic principles while promoting peaceful co-existence between people who profess different faiths and thus encouraging the provision of diversity in raising the professional and social conscience of our students as we prepare global health care leaders.
We believe that the future professional and safe nursing/ midwifery practice is a link between clinical excellence, theoretical learning and effective relational practice guided by evidence based knowledge. Quality nursing /midwifery practice is an outcome-orientated approach that includes evidence based practice, reflective practice, good communication, and respectful disciplinary, professionalism and interprofessional collaboration with a focus on patient and family-centered care.

School of nursing and midwifery of Umma University is committed to excellence in higher education, research and innovations of nursing/midwifery students based on Islamic values, working towards meeting stakeholders’ needs and exceeding their expectations.
The school has satisfy all applicable requirements and regularly monitor for continual improvement of the Quality Management System based on ISO 9001:2015.

The school of Nursing & Midwifery shall ensure QMS is integrated into the school activities and promote the use of process approach and risk-based thinking to ensure quality training is achieved.
The policy and related quality objectives shall be reviewed and revised periodically as applicable, in line with University strategic management and quality systems managements.

Career opportunities: on completion of the course our students are placed for internship across the country by ministry of Health.
