The sponsor of Umma University is the Africa Muslims Agency (AMA) currently known as Direct Aid International. It is a non-governmental organization registered in Kenya under Non-Governmental Organization Act, Reg. No. 10. Direct Aid’s main objectives include the establishment, management and support of education related projects in Kenya and Africa at large.
Direct Aid has established a chain of primary and secondary schools in 33 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. They sponsor three other universities in Somalia and Tanzania and have plans to start many more in the continent. Currently they have started the establishment of a University in Benin, West Africa.
The vision of the sponsor is to make Umma University the hub and a model for all the Universities to be established by them in the continent. This is because of the strategic position and location of the Kenya in the African continent.
