DR. ABBAS GULLET (Chancellor UU)
Brief Biography
Dr. Gullet was born in Modogashe, Garissa, in 1959. He was orphaned at an early age, he was adopted and raised by a family in Mombasa.
He attained a Post Graduate Diploma (MBA) in practicing Management (INSEAD 1997), Lancaster University, McGill University, Hitotubashi University, Bangalore School of Management.
He was recognized as the UN Person of the Year in 2007, while in 2008, he was awarded an honorary of Order of the Golden Warrior from H.E Hon. Mwai Kibaki, the president of the Republic of Kenya. In June 2009, he was also awarded Utetezi Award (Civil Society) in recognition of his remarkable contribution to humanitarian activities.
Dr. Gullet served as the Secretary General of Kenya Red Cross Society from 2005 to 2019. In June 2007, Kenya Red Cross Society was awarded the Super Brands status by the East African Chapter being the second Red Cross Red Crescent Society in the world after American Red Cross to be awarded this status in the humanitarian field. In 2009, under his leadership, the Society founded the Emergency Medical Services (E-PLUS), a unit with the largest fleet of Ambulances in Kenya.
During his tenure as the Secretary General of Kenya Red Cross Society, he transformed the Society from one that was facing multiple challenges, to a vibrant growing humanitarian organization. He is accredited with providing strategic leadership for the Society in delivering its mission of alleviating human suffering to the community and have successfully transformed the Society into the leading Humanitarian National Society that it is in Kenya today.
