The department of Medical Surgical Nursing and Preclinical Sciences headed by a chairman is hosted at the School of Nursing and Midwifery of UMMA University. Its key mandate is to coordinates the training of nurses in medical surgical nursing, pre-clinical sciences and clinical placement and supervision of nursing students. The department is also involved in coordination of examinations and timetabling at the school of Nursing and Midwifery. The Department aspires to contribute positively in higher education associated with Nursing practices, research, community outreach and innovative technology based on high moral values that are derived from Islamic Values, Ethics and principles. The department aims to produce evidence based nursing professionals with global understanding of the dynamic changes in the nursing care delivery.

The department is equipped with varied specialized teaching staff- in areas of;-

• Human anatomy,
• Immunology and
• Medical physiology,
• Lab technologist 
• Clinical instructor.

The department also boast of a state of the art nursing skills laboratory, modern biochemistry laboratory and microbiology laboratory.
